Aside from downtown, the city of Charleston expands over and into what we call West Ashley. Why is it named West Ashley? Because this area is west of the Ashley River - hence the name. This and many of Charleston’s other waterways play a significant role in the city’s development throughout time - but more on that later. Additionally, West Ashley is known for the Avondale neighborhood. Where is Avondale located in West Ashley? It's a neighborhood in the Southeastern portion of WA that lies between Savannah Highway (US 17) and Highway 61. This area has many different interurban eateries, pubs, and emporiums - especially towards the corner of Savannah Highway and Magnolia Rd.
